Our History & Information About Us

The Quad City Animal Welfare Center was founded in 1977. We were the first and ONLY No-Kill in the Quad Cities.

Our legal name is the Humane Society of Rock Island County. We are a DBA (doing business as) The Quad City Animal Welfare Center. Our tax ID number is 36-2952894.

We are 501(c)3 Non-Profit and rely solely on donations. We do not receive any state or county tax dollars.

Our mission is to operate a shelter for homeless animals, to offer a spay/neuter program, and to provide humane education.

QCAWC’s first location is 724 2nd Ave. W. in Milan, IL. This building is QCAWC’s Adoption & Education Center.  The current building was built in 1997, although the shelter got its start on the same piece of property in 1977.  It was expanded in 1999 to add the humane education center, and then again in 2006 in order to allow more room for services and shelter animals. The building is now about 11,500 square feet.

Quad City Animal Welfare Center was able to expand in 2016 due to the generosity of donors and open a second, 7,000 square foot location. QCAWC’s Spay/Neuter & Wellness Clinic is located at 612 1st St. W. in Milan, IL. The expansion has allowed QCAWC to nearly double the amount of spay/neuter surgeries we can do and increase our wellness care efforts!
