Volunteer With QCAWC

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Quad City Animal Welfare Center!

Our volunteers are an important part of everything we do. Their time, compassion, and dedication help us provide quality care for the animals at QCAWC while supporting our programs and services throughout the community.

We offer volunteer opportunities in a variety of areas, including:

  • Animal care
  • Cleaning and general shelter support
  • Animal enrichment and socialization
  • Fundraising and special events
  • Administrative assistance
  • Clinic assistance
  • Community outreach
  • And more!

Whether you enjoy working directly with animals, helping behind the scenes, or supporting special events, there are many ways to get involved and make a difference.

Community Service Hours

Please note: QCAWC does not offer volunteer opportunities for community service hours mandated through the court system.

We do welcome students and individuals completing service hours through schools, colleges, clubs, workplaces, service organizations, and other approved programs as part of educational requirements or community service projects.

Volunteer Orientation

All new volunteers are required to attend an in person Volunteer Orientation and Training before beginning their volunteer service.

Orientations are generally held on the first Wednesday of each month at 5:30 PM.

Registration is required. To reserve your spot, please email Cameron Johnson at cameron@qcawc.org.

Additional orientation dates may be offered throughout the year, particularly during busier seasons, so please watch for schedule updates and additional opportunities.

Volunteers Under Age 16

Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult during Volunteer Orientation and at all times while volunteering at QCAWC.

One Final Step Before You Begin

After completing our in person Volunteer Orientation and Training, there is one additional requirement before you can begin volunteering.

As part of our insurance requirements, all new volunteers must complete a short online training through Maddie’s Fund.

Following orientation, you will receive a welcome email from our Community Services Coordinator, Cameron Johnson, with instructions and a link to complete the training.

Once you have completed both the QCAWC orientation and the required online training, you will be ready to start volunteering and helping us make a difference for animals in our community!

Group Volunteer Opportunities

Looking for a meaningful way for your group to give back to the community while helping animals in need? We would love to have you join us!

QCAWC offers group volunteer opportunities for Scout troops, school groups, coworkers, businesses, clubs, community organizations, and other groups looking to make a difference together.

Group volunteer opportunities are available for 5 to 25 participants, depending on the activity, age of participants, and type of project.

What Can Your Group Expect?

Your group volunteer experience will begin with a brief introduction to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, including information about our mission, programs, and the animals we serve. We will also review important safety guidelines and provide a tour of our Adoption & Education Center.

Following the introduction, your group will participate in a prearranged volunteer activity or service project. Depending on the needs of QCAWC and the size and age of your group, activities may include:

  • Animal enrichment and socialization
  • Animal care and cleaning projects
  • Laundry and shelter support
  • Preparing enrichment activities for our animals
  • Fundraising projects
  • Assistance with special events
  • Other projects based on the current needs of QCAWC

Activities will be discussed and selected with your group representative prior to your scheduled volunteer date so we can provide a safe, organized, and meaningful experience for everyone involved.

Group volunteer opportunities must be scheduled in advance and are subject to staff availability and the current needs of the organization.
